DIY VINTAGE REFASHION // DRAB TO FAB DRESS TRANSFORMATION

i found this gorgeous embroidered periwinkle & lilac lace dress recently which was not only outdated design wise but obviously many sizes too big - story of my life! but with just a little bit of sewing and by getting trigger happy with a pair of scissors i transformed it into a happy summer dress with a much more flattering length for my tiny frame. here's how i did it...

firstly, i removed the little pussy bow attached to the edge of the collar as well as the awkward sleeves carefully with a seam ripper, then stitched the raw edges with a straight stitch...

then i made belt loops with the pussy bow i snipped off and attached them to either side of the waistband. to make the dress fit me better, i created a set of inverted pleats and the back of the dress, and sew them down just at the waist...

finally, to tackle the length issue, i chopped off 4 inches off the lace and 7 inches (don't forget your seam allowance) off the lining and hemmed the raw edges with a straight stitch. i saved the lace from the hem i shortened and turned it into a matching belt to complete the outfit...

and voila! all done :) i paired the look with my favorite nine west sharina taupe shoes, and i like how the inverted pleats at the back has given the dress a bit more bounce, and the shorter lining against the lace freshens up the look.

it's not easy being seriously petite!
