i am an absolute sucker for polka dots. i found this vintage navy with white polka dot dress while thrifting and just had to have it even though the cut around the bust and neckline made me feel like the dress was wearing me instead. so i decided to take on the challenge of sorting this dress out and make it gorgeous :)
first i tapered the underbust to the waist line to make it hug my frame...
then i added darts on either side of the bust area and pinched the top of the shoulder straps, just below the collar bone area to open up the smothering neckline...
next, i unpicked the waistband to reveal the two wrap front pieces so i can rearrange the pleats to fit my bust and waist
once i was happy with the rouching placement, everything was tucked back into the waistband and sewn with a simple straight stitch and yeay!
i believe i made the right decision opening up the neckline...i no longer feel overwhelmed by the dress and there's more of a fun, flowy feel which compliments the heavy crepe fabric very well...i like how it goes well with my simple black jimmy choo slingbacks too :)
it's tough being seriously petite!
