i looove wearing white, and in the tropics wearing white cotton is the best! i picked up this lovely but dated vintage white eyelet dress and decided to get to work revamping it into something more up-to-date with the current off-shoulder trend
lovely as it is, i felt this dress looks too much like a sleepwear with the lace trimmings along the top and underbust areas as well as the ill-proportioned satin ribbon...so off they went!
next i carefully separated the ruffle along the hem with a seam ripper, and saved the ruffles...
then i cut 4 inches off the lining and hemmed both the lining and the dress with a simple straight stitch
i toyed around with the idea of adding a black grograin ribbon under the bust, but decided against it at the end...
next, i measured the length i needed to create a nice off shoulder drop from the front of my shoulder strap to the back...in my case i needed 13 inches + 1 inch seam allowance, then i hemmed all the raw edges with a straight stitch.
once i was happy with the placement of the off shoulder ruffles, i simply secured each edge and voila!
all done :)
i love how it turned out so easy to wear, comfy and uber chic. ive paired the dress with a simple pair of simple nude wedge, chanel fanny pack / waist pouch (sans the belt this time around) ala kourtney kardashian, and a white with black trim wide brim hat which is coincidentally big in the chanel 2016/2017 cruise collection.
i love how anyone can give this a go with just a little bit of sewing skills and a whole lot of inspiration :) it's a great feeling wearing something you've had a hand in creating!
xoxo
