GETAWAY PENANG // CALM RETREAT

everytime we come to penang, we stay at lone pine. there's no reason in our books not to. its fabulous 60' inspired furniture design, simple yet functional design solutions and minimalist color palette suits us to a tea.

established in 1948, this delightful sanctuary was the first hotel on batu ferringhi beach, and today retains much of its old world charm. their early guests were mainly british residents in malaysia and sailors during their port calls and was also a haven for expatriates and their families fleeing the severe winters of home. today it stands proud, as i believe it should as the only boutique hotel on the prime stretch of real estate in ferringhi.

this time around we stayed in the corner room in the main building. it comes with a separate reading room and a sunken bath on the balcony. the louvers on the balcony shifts so you can place them at a convenient spot for privacy while you're enjoying a luxurious soak in the bath.

i love how the bathroom can either be fully opened into an l-shaped corridor, closed off on one end, or completely shut for privacy. its stand-alone ceiling to floor double sided cupboard acts not only as a supporting pillar but also divides the room...

reading and chilling out is highly encouraged, as guests are welcome to help themselves to borrow books and lounge about as they please...

your view from the gym (not that i ever go to the gym) but its nice nonetheless, with gorgeous hardwood flooring...it shares the courtyard with the fabulous spa next door where we thoroughly enjoyed our messages.

we highly recommend this place, especially to couples (i sound like im being paid to write this arent i?) hehe...anyways, if you do go, do share your experience with me ;)

oxo,
lisa
