i saw these stunning pull-on lace pants from j crew over at atlantic-pacific and i knew i just had to have them! buuutttt...knowing my 'little' problem with size, i decided that i would make myself a pair...why not, right?!?

now, i have NEVER made a pair of pants before, pull-on, zip-up or otherwise but i psyched myself up and braced myself for a laborious and difficult task. but to my utter shock and delight, it was so, so easy!
here's how i did it...my apologies in advance - i didn't take as many detailed photos as i should have...
first, purchased some stretch lace and matching lining, then i made a paper pattern by tracing a pair of leggings that fit me perfectly - but instead of tapering the ends of the legs as it is on the leggings, i drew it so that the legs went rather straight down to the ankles, like a pair of cigarette pants would...
at this point, make sure that your patterns match so they dont appear wonky once worn
next, i placed the paper pattern on the lace and cut them out accordingly. i wanted a nice raw lace-y hem, so i trimmed the edge exactly as the flowers and leaves were shaped...then i sew the inseams on both pant legs, stopping at the crotch area.
now here comes the slightly confusing part - once inseams were done, i turned one pant leg inside-out and slid it through the other pant leg which is outside-in, so that the right sides are facing each other. at this point you should have your crotch / bum areafacing in on itself, allowing you to go ahead a stitch them together very easily in one continuous go...
if you're still confused, check out campclem's tutorial - she has done a wonderful job taking photos step by step :)

finally, i cut some elastic according to my waist size and encased it in a strip of lace, pinned it down and attached the waistband to the top of the pant legs...
once attached, it should look like this...

and there you have it! all done :)
i paired the delicate lace pants with my trusty and versatile white button down shirt from gap, a simple pair of christian louboutin wedges and topped with a vintage tassel broach.
