DIY LACE PENCIL SKIRT // SELF PORTRAIT INSPIRED

diy self portrait inspired giupure lace pencil skirt

inspired by the gorgeous giupure lace dress by self portrait, as seen on miranda kerr, maisie williams and many more stars, i decided to make my own 2-piece version recently, but this time around i wanted to share with you what i made with the 70 cm x 35 cm remnant - the lace was too beautiful to just discard...so i made a simple little peekaboo pencil skirt!

here's how i did it - first i selected a pencil skirt that fits me perfectly, then i folded my lace remnant in half and lay it down flat, and traced the shape of my skirt onto the lace. since i didnt have much lace to work with, i barely had any room to spare...but i made it work ;)

next, i trimmed the sides accordingly, then i traced a similar pattern on a nude lining fabric which i decided to make 4 inches shorter than the lace to give it a peekaboo affect. finally, i sew the sides together with the lining and added a hidden zipper as well as a hook & eye on the left...and there you have it, a simple pencil skirt without darts on the back so i can have a clean, seamless look.

voila! all done :)
for a toned down, casual look i paired the delicate (yet commanding) lace skirt with a simple white button down shirt from gap and finished the look with my trusty & comfy christian louboutin wedges.
