i love glitter and all things shiny and sparkly. i used to be rather embarrassed by it and regularly talked myself out of wearing sequins and sparklies, but now i feel a lot more confident, to a point where i wear beaded and embellished tops even in the daytime :)
inspired by glitter shoes on the runway and many gorgeous diy blogs, i decided to add some pizzaz and update my tired-looking shoes with non other than wonderful fairy glitter dust! it's super easy and more importantly, fun to do - i swear.
so here's what you'll need:
1. a pair of shoes or sandals
2. glitter dust
3. adhesive / glue (transparent drying)
4. paint brush
5. glass / plastic container
6. patience :)
first off, wipe your shoe surface clean...
then pour your glitter dust into a glass or plastic container, then add glue to the mixture. once thoroughly stirred, do a trial run on some scrap paper. your mixture should be gooey but not runny, and it should run pretty smoothly without clumping...now you're ready to paint!
i've resoled my shoes, and looking at this photo now, i'm thinking i might paint the sides gold ;)
do be aware that painting a light colored shoe dark and vice versa takes a bit more patience than painting a similar colored shoe. paint gently in stages. layer the glitter once dry...i did mine in two coats, followed by light touch ups around the base. leave to dry overnight...
and voila!
i've paired my 'new' glitter shoes with a midi box pleat flare skirt i handmade using japanese cotton, white vintage sleeveless shirt from urban&co and transparent chanel flap bag. i've also accessorized my shoes with velvet straps embellished with white pearls
so far i have not had an problems with the dust falling off, and my shoes have remained soft and supple. i hope you'll give this a try and share your results with me :)
oxo,
lisa
