remember the chevron birthday invitations i designed for a client in north sumatera recently? you can imagine my surprise when i was asked by my client from penang to design a set of 7 hantaran trays for their son's wedding, to be flown to where of all places? that's right...north sumatera again. strange huh? ;)
i was thrilled by this opportunity, as it posed a number of challenges:
1. they needed to be air flown
2. they needed to be fully secured, stand-alone with no loose pieces
3. they needed to be very feminine
4. they needed to be pre-prepared & packaged
5. and they of course, needed to be fabulously different
so, after brainstorming with my alter-ego and google for a while, i decided my best bet was to make flowers from lace and adorn the trays with lots of bling. i figured pastels would be a good way to go, since ive been feeling very pastel-ly lately...hence a combination of peach, yellow, cream and green with highlights in gold and bits of silver.
i started off by spending days individually cutting, sewing and wrapping matching colored floral tape in each stem with mum, and after a few days of rest for my sore and tired fingers, i then spent 3 nights putting them all together and packing them all up as securely as possible...
i couldnt make it to the wedding in person, as i have already planned a trip to phuket with my man...besides, i think id have felt rather awkward being there. so all 7 hantarans were brought to the airport, and were met by the groom's brother and relatives who were flying from kl. i was very nervous indeed, but 2 hours later i heard from the groom's mother saying that they all l.o.v.e.d it and that every tray arrived safely and in good order.
all packed and ready to fly! |
