GETAWAY CAMBODIA // SIEM REAP

cambodia, particularly angkor watt has a certain charm and mystique to it that has drawn my man since god-knows-when. we spent a considerable amount of time there recently, and i understood exactly why it is that he is so enthralled by those exquisite, mind boggling and fabulous ruins.this place has character and a sense of gentle chaos. the outdoors is the great  focal point, and air conditioning is a luxury

i find this particular structure at the 'women's temple' rather odd and out of place...it almost bears a resemblance to a roman building...and it is the only double storey structure...odd...
i dont think ive mentioned it, but my man is an amazing artist. im not saying it just because, but i mean he is amazing. he would photograph something like this...
then get busy and turn millions of wispy strokes into a thing of beauty using only a pen
i insisted that we stay at the hotel de la paix, after having seen it on tele being rated as the top hotel in cambodia and top 10 hotels in the world. i was uber excited and curios, but i have to say, our stay there left me rather hollow. much ado about nothing i feel...or perhaps it could simply be the fact that we (i) have been spoilt by other absolutely fabulous hotels we've stayed in around asia(?)...i suppose it has to do with the fact that a stay away from home is something one expects to feel charmed, welcomed, whole, tranquil, luxuriated, pampered...wholesome.

if i have to describe cambodia in two words, it would be : heat & tranquility

oxo,
lisa
