DIY VINTAGE REFASHION // DRAB TO FAB DRESS TRANSFORMATION

i came across this blue poppy dress while thrifting recently and fell in love with the linen fabric. i wasn't too convinced about the electric blue poppies, but i really liked the taupe base which matches my skin tone perfectly. it's way too big for me, as usual but i decided to give this dress a go anyways!

so here's what i had to work with...a much-too-big, outdated and slightly lopsided dress...

i didn't like the buttons nor the shape of the sleeves or the height of the neckline, so the first thing i did was to remove all 8 boring buttons, followed by the awkward sleeves

then i proceeded to lower the neckline by trimming the first 2 layers off of the tier and hemming the raw edges

because i removed the shoulder pads, i needed to take the shoulders up a notch as well to make it fit me perfectly, and i took the sides in as well to make the fit more flattering

just before sewing the armholes, i decided to change the shape of the back a little to give it a more modern look. now it's time to chop off the bottom of the dress to make it fit my seriously petite frame better...

i chopped the lining 3 inches shorter than the dress and hemmed the raw edges

and finally, i used the hem of the dress i chopped off to make a matching belt to complete the look :)

and voila...it's not easy being seriously petite! i paired the dress with a matching taupe etienne aigner bag and super matchy nine west sharina sling back sandals :)
